Compression

The core of the innovation is the reduction of the amounts of data to be transmitted, resulting in considerable savings in terms of time and costs. The data reduction is the outcome of our patented real-time generalization method. The compression process reduces the amount of data to be transmitted to an optimal and manageable size.

Example of a conventional procedure

The patented procedure can be illustrated by the example of the letter "a" on the right. The upper picture shows the redrawing of the image using an ordinary compression process. The "a" stands for an irregular form, such as the course of a street,  which is to be represented as a vector in the form of x/y coordinates. A serrated line can be clearly seen on the image, which only manages to represent the original form to an insufficient extent. It is also evident that the serrated line consists of a multitude of coordinates and therefore involves a large amount of data.

Example of the 123map procedure

The lower picture on the right illustrates the 123map method, in which the tangents formed by a few x/y coordinates are connected to the original image and represent the picture with optimal fidelity. This makes the transmission of significantly less vector data possible for the representation of the image on the monitor with a correspondingly greater speed. The special feature of this process is the calculation speed that has been attained, which increases only linearly in proportion to the amount of calculated points. The real-time reduction of the data is conducted without the use of recalculated LODs, thus making free zooming within the map detail possible for the user.

Our solution

This is how it looks when an "a" consisting of several hundred points is reduced to a few points using conventional technology.

And this is how it looks when our technology tackles the problem. It results in a high degree of detail accuracy coupled with a minimum amount of data points. That is the heart and the key merit of our process.
